Our November Tradition: Our Grateful Tree!

Last year, we tried something new… and it quickly became our girls’ favorite new tradition! In fact, as soon as they finished trick or treating on Halloween night, they were excitedly reminding me that it was November 1st tomorrow, and time to put up our “grateful tree”!

I know so many people struggle with when to put up their Christmas tree. I’ve always been one for AFTER Thanksgiving, but last year we did something different. We officially put our tree up our November 1st… though it starts off a bit bare, we continue decorating it all month long and by Thanksgiving it will be full. Full of moments, people, and things that each of us are thankful for. Everyday, as we notice something we are grateful for, we will write it down on a piece of paper, put it inside an ornament, and hang it on the tree. On Thanksgiving, we take each ornament down, one by one, and read what’s inside. What better way to spend Thanksgiving as a family, than to relive each moment we’ve been grateful for and show appreciation for one another?

8 people (well, 6 that can write ☺️), 25 days… 150 moments of gratitude we can celebrate on Thanksgiving. And a month full of showing thanks, and teaching our children to notice the small things, the amazing people, and the special moments around us each day.

This Saturday night, we will be putting up our tree… and we already can’t wait to gather around on Thanksgiving and see what’s inside! ❤️ After Thanksgiving, we’ll take everything down and re-decorate it for Christmas! 🎄

(PS- Oh, and learn from us- it was near impossible to get the paper out of these plastic Christmas bulbs, lol! After the tweezers failed, we had to resort to scissors and pliers…. umm, long story short, we’ll be trying a different method this year! I’m not sure what quite yet… but follow us on Instagram today and join us while we shop for a new idea! Hobby Lobby, here we come! 🙂
