How To Hang Our Mantles Safely

We try to make sure every mantle is able to be installed easily with our custom wooden frame/brackets. Think our floating shelf brackets, but on steroids! Our frames are attached directly to the wall, and your mantle simply slides right onto it. We also recommend screwing the mantle into the frame from the top, to ensure it is installed sturdily. For even extra sturdiness- we also have used liquid nails! If our mantles are going into a flat surface (drywall, for example), it can’t get any easier to hang! Stone surfaces, etc, can sometimes get a little trickier, but can certainly be done!

While actually hanging them is easy – the most important part is to be sure you are hanging them SAFELY. The National Fire Protection Association publishes fire safety codes encompassing fire safety regulations (see chart below). Some states and smaller municipal districts default to uniform fire codes published by the NFPA; others develop their own regulations. You or your installer should be aware of the code for your residence. Twelve inches from the fireplace is typically the rule of thumb most people use- however, the type of fireplace, the venting system your fireplace uses, the size of your mantle, and your local ordinances all play a factor.

So, while new mantles can certainly change the entire look of a room, just be sure you are hanging them a safe distance from your fire source! <3
